MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives have charged a Puna with attempted murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony for allegedly shooting a man on Thursday.

The suspect, Peter Watson Jr., 23, is being held in the Hilo cellblock without bail on the murder charge and $10,000 bail on the use of a weapon charge.

Watson was arrested Thursday after he allegedly shot Franklin Grammer, 37, in the chest. Grammer was flown to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where he was reported still in critical condition on Saturday.

Responding to a 4:54 p.m. call Thursday, Puna patrol officers determined that Watson had allegedly shot the victim during an argument at a home in the lower portion of the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision of Puna.
