MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged a 38-year-old man Thursday (August 8, 2002) with second-degree murder in the death of his wife.

The suspect, Warlito C. Gorospe, of a Pepeekeo address, is being held in the Hilo police cellblock without bail and is due to be arraigned in Hilo district court Friday afternoon.

He is charged with the slaying Tuesday of Gloria Gorospe, 27, of an address on the Old Onomea Road in Pepeekeo. The two had been contemplating a divorce and had taken out divorce papers.

The results of an autopsy completed Thursday determined that the victim died as the result of “blunt force trauma to the head.”

The woman’s death was discovered Tuesday night. Responding to a call about 9 p.m., South Hilo Patrol officers arrived at a Hilo address, where they found the suspect.

After talking to Gorospe at the residence, the officers were led to a second residence on the Old Onomea Road. There, they found the body of the female victim lying on the floor. Police then arrested Gorospe for murder.
