MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Big Island police arrested a 69-year-old male who was sought for questioning in the investigation of an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault.

Police said the suspect was arrested at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday (March 23, 2004) in Waimea.

After being questioned, the suspect was released pending further investigation.

The alleged kidnapping and sexual assault occurred on March 8, 2004, at Waimea Park. The minor victim fled from the suspect’s vehicle and notified an adult. The minor was not injured.

Police had asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who was described as a Caucasian male in his 60s. He was described as driving a newer model Mercedes Benz four-door sedan dark blue in color with a leather tan interior.
