Three Suspects Charged in Beating, Robbery 03-17-01

Three young men have been charged with robbery after they allegedly beat and robbed another male early Friday (March 16, 2000) in the Banyan Drive area.

Responding to a 12:56 a.m. report of a robbery, Hilo patrol officers found a 22-year-old male victim who told them he was robbed in the Hawaii Naniloa Golf course parking lot.

The victim said he was approached by a vehicle carrying five local males. He said two of the males got out, and one punched him and robbed him of $20.

At 1:15 a.m., Hilo patrol officers arrested the five suspects. The suspects were identified as Ellswood Noeau, 22, of an Alawaina Street address; Daya Polikapu, 18, of Desha Avenue; Justin Flores, 19, of Awapuhi Street; Dustin Sims, 19, of Kalanikoa Street; and Earl Willet Jr., 18, also of Kalanikoa Street.

At 3 p.m., Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged three of the suspects. Polikapu was charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree assault and is being held on a total bail of $6,000. Noeau and Flores were each charged with second-degree robbery, and each is being held on $5,000 bail.

The other two suspects were released without charges.
