Three-year-old Kona girl dies in apparent drowning 03-29-04

A three-year-old girl died in an apparent drowning Monday (March 29, 2004) in a swimming pool in the Kona Palisades subdivision in Kailua-Kona.

The name of the victim is being withheld until notification of one of her parents.

Responding to a 4:48 p.m. call, police determined that the upstairs neighbors observed the victim floating face down in the swimming pool. The neighbors rushed downstairs, notified the victimÕs father, then pulled the girl from the pool and started cardio-pulmonary resuscitation until fire rescue personnel arrived.

The victim was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
