Big Island police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting Thursday (March 8) in Waikoloa as Tito Rafol, 38, of Waikoloa.

Police responded to a report of the shooting in a parking lot on Waikoloa Beach Drive shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday and found the victim dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

They arrested Lito Mateo, 53, of Waikoloa near the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is being held at the Kealakehe police cellblock pending further investigation.

Police have recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.

The victim and suspect were co-workers. Police are still investigating the motive for the shooting.

Detectives assigned to the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.
