Big Island police are looking for a 50-year-old Mountain View man wanted for allegedly stabbing a 46-year-old Volcano man in Kurtistown on March 25, 2011.

On March 25, 2011 at about 1:20 pm, Puna patrol officers responded to a report of an assault victim at the Kurtistown Park off of Route 11. Police and Fire Department Rescue personnel discovered that the 46-year-old victim sustained a stab wound to his chest. He was transported to the Hilo Medical Center by medics and was initially listed in serious condition. He was upgraded to stable condition following surgery.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Richard Broyles, for this investigation, which is classified as an attempted murder. Broyles is described as Caucasian, about 6’2″ tall, weighing about 275 lbs. He is also known as “Rick”. He was last seen leaving the scene operating a light colored 1999 Plymouth Voyager van bearing license plate #KAC-934 and headed in the Volcano direction on Route 11. Police are cautioning the public from approaching Broyles who is considered dangerous and instead to call police.

Individuals with information on the whereabouts of Broyles are asked to contact Detective Wendell Carter of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2378 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
