Big Island police are seeking witnesses to an incident early Saturday morning (March 31) in South Kohala that critically injured a Kamuela woman.

At about 1:44 a.m. Saturday, South Kohala officers responded to the emergency room at North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital and learned that a 26-year-old woman was being treated after reportedly jumping from a moving vehicle that was traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour. The woman was later transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in critical condition.

This case has been classified as a negligent injury.

The dark blue four-door Dodge Ram pickup truck was reportedly traveling on Akoni Pule Highway between midnight and 1:30 a.m. and heading in the Kona direction between Kohala and Kawaihae.

Police ask that anyone who observed the truck or has any information about the incident call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
