Police have arrested and charged a 31-year-old Puna woman with a variety of drug offenses.

The suspect was identified as Maria Leolani Spencer, of no permanent address.

Spencer was arrested Thursday and charged Friday (August 29, 2003) with three counts of promotion of a dangerous drug and three counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $50,000.

Spencer made an initial appearance Tuesday (September 2, 2003) in District Court, where her bail was maintained. She currently is being held at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center.

Earlier, police had issued a public appeal for information on Spencer’s whereabouts.

Police said they are now looking into possible federal prosecution of the suspect for other offenses.
