MEDIA RELEASE

A 35-year-old Hilo woman was charged Monday (August 21, 2000) after she was caught allegedly burglarizing a hotel room Sunday at the Seaside Hotel on Banyan Way in Hilo.

The suspect, identified as Dawn Marie Lindsey, was charged with first-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal property damage. The suspect, on probation at the time of the incident, is being held at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Responding to a 3:22 p.m. call of a burglary in progress Sunday, Hilo patrol officers determined that the hotel’s head clerk caught the suspect breaking into a room of the one-story hotel.

When the clerk, a male, confronted her, the suspect locked herself in the bathroom, then broke a window and fled.

The clerk and two women bystanders gave chase and caught the suspect about a half-block away. They held the suspect until police arrived.
