Woman Detained at Kona Airport 01/17/00

MEDIA RELEASE

On Tuesday, January 11, 2000, at about 1:30 p.m., the Kona Vice Section received information from airport security at the Kona International Airport that they were detaining a female party who was in possession of marijuana. Security personnel related that the marijuana was found within a handbag that the female had sent through security screening.

Upon the officers’ arrival at the Kona International Airport at about 1:45 p.m., officers were informed that the female party had boarded a mainland flight and left her handbag with security personnel. The handbag was found to contain 15.2 grams of marijuana along with personal items.

The case is currently under investigation and attempts are being made to identify the owner of the handbag.
