Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s helping in providing information about a suspicious fire at an unoccupied house in the Puna District.

In the early hours of June 12, police and firefighters responded to a house on North Glenwood Road in Kurtistown, one-tenth of a mile in from Route 11, to find the structure totally engulfed in flames. Upon further investigation it was determined that the house had been vacant for some time and was unoccupied.

Fire personnel extinguished the flames and estimated the damage to the structure at $25,000. A fire inspector also indicated that the fire was intentionally set.

The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident or anyone who may have seen suspicious vehicles or persons in the area of this fire to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Joel J. Field at 961-2381 or joel.field@hawaiicounty.gov.
