During the week of July 12, 2021, through July 18, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 639 DUI arrests compared with 483 during the same period last year, an increase of 32.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 421 major accidents so far this year compared with 425 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.9 percent.
To date, there have been 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities, compared with 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 18.2 percent for fatal crashes, and 18.2 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
