9-09-21 Police Seeking Seven People for Questioning in Agricultural Thefts

Hawai‘i Island police request the public’s assistance in identifying seven individuals for questioning in several agricultural thefts occurring in the Pepe‘ekeō and Hāmākua areas.

The thefts took place along the Hāmākua Coast between June and September. In all, about 1,500 pounds of fruit were stolen with a value of $5,000 – $6,000. Stolen produce included durian, mangosteen, lemons, avocadoes, and lychee. 

“Agricultural theft is a serious crime and the department is committed in pursuing those who commit these crimes,” said Lieutenant William Derr of the South Hilo Community Policing Section.

Police ask that anyone with information on the identity of these individuals or information regarding agricultural thefts in the Pepe‘ekeō and Hāmākua areas to call Officer D. Abalos of the Hilo Community Policing Section at (808) 961-8849 or via email at darren.abalos@hawaiicounty.gov.
