Police are seeking the public’s help in solving a burglary that occurred on February 5, 2000, at a residence on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo.

A burglar or burglars entered the home, ransacked it and stole a variety of items.

Among the items stolen were a number of collector coins, such as Indian head nickels, silver quarters, silver half-dollars and old pennies. Old Dagwood comics, a gold S-type chain, two old fishing poles, a throw net, a black handbag with an American Savings logo, a black travel bag bought in Japan, blank checks issued by First Hawaiian Bank and $300 worth of Japanese yen were also stolen.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the culprits or who may know of any of the stolen items are asked to call South Hilo Patrol Officer Melvin Yamamoto at 961-2311 or the police emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
