Media Release

A Kona man who was out on bail after an arrest last month for driving a stolen car was arrested Wednesday (August 1) in another stolen car.

At 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, an off-duty Honokaʻa patrol officer observed a stolen Honda Accord being driven in a reckless manner on Highway 19 heading west. The officer called for assistance and continued following the car, which had been reported as stolen earlier that morning from a shopping center in Waimea. The Honda left the highway and came to a stop at a dead end on Palikekua Street in Honokaʻa. The driver then fled on foot.

Police canvassed the area and were later alerted by area residents that a person matching the driver’s description had been seen leaving nearby  bushes. Officers arrested 22-year-old Jesse Travis Ralston of Kailua-Kona on Plumeria Street in Honokaʻa at 10:20 a.m. He was taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

At 2:19 p.m. Thursday, detectives charged Ralston with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, theft and reckless driving. He is being held in lieu of $31,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Friday (August 3).

On July 19, Ralson was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle after being arrested in another stolen car. He was released that night after posting $2,000 bail.
