On March 17, 2009, an ordinance took effect designating Manawale’a Street in Kealakehe as having no parking on either side of the street. On the same date, another ordinance created bicycle lanes on both sides of Manawale’a Street.

The Department of Public Works and the Hawai’i Police Department have been warning motorists to discontinue parking on Manawale’a Street.

With the anticipated increased traffic caused by the opening of Manawale’a Street as a connector roadway to Kealakehe Parkway, police will begin citing vehicles parked along Manawale’a Street beginning Monday, April 27.
