Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for fraudulent use of a credit card. The card was used at a store in Hilo for charges totaling approximately $176.

The man’s image was captured on a surveillance camera. He is described as African-American, in his late 20s with a slim build.

Police ask that anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID. Merchants are reminded to follow proper protocol when making credit card transactions and to be especially cautious when processing large purchases—especially if the credit card doesn’t swipe properly. When in doubt, check with the credit card company.
