The "no left turn" signs prohibit left turns into the Hilo High School parking lot and roadway above the track between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for traffic traveling Makai (east) on Waianuenue Avenue. For traffic proceeding Mauka (west), left turns into the Hilo Intermediate School are prohibited during the same time period.

The restrictions are in effect for school days only and have been in effect since 2005.

Also, please remember that a one-way traffic pattern is in effect on Waianuenue Avenue between 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m. on school days. During that time, traffic on Waianuenue Avenue between Komohana Street and Kamehameha Avenue may travel only in the makai (easterly) direction.

Motorist should be advised that police will be monitoring these areas, and violators are subject to a citation with a fine of $97.
