Media Release

The Hawai’i Police Department’s Community Policing Section coordinated a beach cleanup on Saturday (January 29) along Bayfront Highway in Hilo.

Equipped with rubber gloves and rubbish bags, community members, neighborhood watch members from nine different communities and community policing officers participated in “CAN IT.” During the event, Hawai’i County Civil Defense officials briefed the participants about the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

“Thank you to all who helped to beautify our island home,” said Community Police Officer Nicole Leyson. “Everyone did their part to make this project a success.”

Police urge anyone wishing to become a member of CERT or looking to partner in a community cleanup project to call the Police Department’s Community Policing Section at 961-8121.
