Big Island police are investigating several thefts of heavy-gauge copper cable from a business in Kaʻū last month.

The multi-weave copper cables stolen from the old South Point wind farm on South Point Road were about 40-feet long and 4- to 6-inches in diameter and covered with black plastic coating. Estimated value of the stolen property is $50,000.

Police ask that anyone who observes suspicious activity at the wind farm or who has any information about the thefts call Officer Dane Shibuya at 939-2520 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
