MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police closed a portion of Saddle Road (Route 200) for several hours Thursday (February 3, 2005) because of a traffic crash near the 47-mile marker.

Responding to a 2:37 p.m. report, South Kohala patrol officers determined that a Logistics Vehicle System (LVS) wrecker was towing another LVS wrecker west on Saddle Road when both vehicles ran off the road. The two vehicles are attached to the Combat Service Support Group No. 3 with the United States Marine Corps.

Two persons reportedly received minor injuries in the crash.

Starting at about 3:15 p.m., police officers allowed only intermittent one-lane use of Saddle Road for several hours. The partial road closure was made necessary because of the size of the vehicles involved and the heavy equipment needed to remove the vehicles from the crash scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
