An illegal alien convicted of drug offenses has been sentenced to five years in the federal penitentiary.

Juan Antonio Lopez, 20, was sentenced Monday (November 29, 1999) before Federal Magistrate David Ezra in U.S. District Court in Honolulu.

On April 16, 1999, Lopez and co-conspirators Brenda Guzman Eston, 22, and Maria De Jesus Garcia, 20, were arrested as the result of a joint Kona Vice Section-FBI operation at the Kona Airport.

The three were charged by the FBI with conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of 4.5 ounces of tar heroin and 17.5 ounces of cocaine.

The other two suspects had been convicted earlier. After they complete their prison sentences, all three will be deported to their native Mexico.
