Hawaii County Police are looking for a male hiker reported missing Monday (November 29, 1999).

The missing man was identified of John Reese, 22, originally from Texas, but now working and living in Puna.

He is described as a Caucasian male, being 5-feet-10 in height, weighing 155 pounds with a slim build, having short, dark brown hair and blue eyes and wearing glasses. He was last seen wearing camouflage pants and a light colored shirt and carrying a red backpack.

A caller told police Reese said he planned to hitchhike from Keaau in Puna to Pololu Valley in North Kohala and then hike from Pololu Valley to Waipio Valley in Hamakua. From there, Reese planned to hitchhike back to Keaau. Reese was supposed to be back at work Monday morning, but he didn’t show up and hasn’t contacted anyone about his whereabouts.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Reese or given him a ride to call Officer Dayton Tagaca or Captain John Dawrs of the North Kohala Patrol at 889-6540.
