Gunman Robs Hilo Bank Branch 07/14/00

A lone masked gunman robbed the Waianuenue Avenue branch of the First Hawaiian Bank Friday afternoon (July 14, 2000) and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Responding to a 4:28 p.m. call, Hilo police learned that the robber walked into the bank branch, located at 120 Waianuenue Avenue, brandished a handgun and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled and was last seen heading makai on Waianuenue.

Witnesses described the suspect as a male, being 5-feet-2 to 5-feet-5 in height and having a slim build and dark complexion. He was wearing a green Army-type jacket with long sleeves, a green ski-type mask, blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect is asked to call the police number at 935-3311.

Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property.
