MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Big Island Police arrested a Hawaii Community Correctional Center inmate who escaped about three weeks ago (March 6, 2006) from the Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room.

Arthur Clayton JR., 44, was arrested Tuesday, March 28, 2006, along a beach trail at the Kona Coast State Park, North Kona, Hawaii after Police received a tip of someone in that area matching his description.

Police believe Clayton was the operator of a stolen vehicle involved in a vehicle pursuit originating in the district of South Kohala, early Tuesday morning. The vehicle pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle broke down forcing the suspects to flee on foot. South Kohala Patrol officers apprehended a 27 year old female occupant of the vehicle near the termination point. The male occupant evaded immediate capture by fleeing on foot.

Throughout most of the day Tuesday, Kona Patrol officers pursued several leads of a suspicious male on foot in the resort area of Kaupulehu, N. Kona, Hawaii. After a short foot chase late Tuesday afternoon, Clayton was arrested for Escape and is being held at the Kona Police Cellblock pending further investigation by Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Section.
