MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League is registering teams for the 2002 HI-PAL Summer Basketball League.

The league is open to boys and girls in the following age divisions: 5 and 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12 and 13 and 14. There will also be a Girls 12 and under and Girls 14 and under division. A player may participate in only one division, and there is a limit to the number of teams in each division.

The deadline to register in the 8 and under, 9 and 10 and Girls divisions will be on May 29, 2002. The deadline for the 11 and 12, and 13 and 14 divisions will be on June 28, 2002.

League games will be held from June 10 through August 31, 2002.

A mandatory meeting for coaches for all 8 and under, 9 and 10 and all Girls divisions will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday (May 29, 2002) at the Hawaii County Police Department’s Hilo station training room. Topics to be discussed will be the league format, rules and regulations and starting date.

Basketball players who played for their high schools at the junior varsity or varsity levels will be ineligible. Boys and girls who have reached their respective age by December 31, 2002, will be eligible to play in their age division.

Teams interested in entering this league are encouraged to contact the HI-PAL office at 961-2220 or 961-2219 as soon as possible.
