Charged with attempted kidnapping

MEDIA RELEASE

Hawaii Police Department detectives have charged a 35-year-old Hilo man with attempted kidnapping stemming from an incident with a 4-year-old child visiting with his family from Michigan . 

The incident took place in a men’s restroom in the downtown Hilo area Tuesday afternoon (July 31) around 4:15 p.m. and was witnessed by the child’s adult brother, who was also in the restroom and stepped in to intervene. The suspect was not known to the victim’s family.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to the report, located the suspect in the area and took him into custody. On Wednesday evening (August 1), detectives charged Kaslor Nota with attempted kidnapping. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $50,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for this afternoon (August 2).

None of the parties involved received any physical injuries.
