Police are asking for the public’s help in locating an inmate who escaped from the Hale Nani minimum security facility Friday (April 30, 1999) in Hilo.

Officials at the facility said the inmate, identified as Troy A. Samson, 28, was discovered missing about 9 p.m.

Samson is described as an Hispanic, about 5-feet-8 or 5-feet-9 in height; weighing about 200 pounds with a heavy build; and having a tan complexion, short black hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing blue shorts and a blue T-shirt with the letters “HCCC” on it.

Samson was being held for revocation of probation and contempt of court for nonviolent crimes.

Anyone with information about Samson’s whereabouts is asked to call Hilo Patrol at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
