A single-story house in the Panaewa area of Hilo was damaged by fire Wednesday (August 30, 2000), leaving only a bedroom standing.

Responding to a 10:38 a.m. call, Hilo patrol officers arrived at 811 Kealakai Street to find tbat firefighters had already extinguished the fire, which was only smoldering.

No one was at home at the time the fire started, and no one was injured in the blaze.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $80,000, but there was not estimate of damages to its contents.

The owners of the three-bedroom wooden house were identified as Merlin and Moana Keaulana.

Fire inspectors have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
