The Hawai’i Police Department is investigating a reported robbery that occurred early Sunday (May 10) in Hilo.

Responding to a 4:59 a.m. call of a possible robbery, police responded to an address on Pauahi Street, where they contacted a 52 year-old Hilo man who reported that a local male punched him in the face and stole a portable electronic device.

After obtaining a physical description of the suspect from the victim, police conducted a search of the area and located a 20 year-old Hilo man, who was arrested for suspicion of robbery.

The 52 year-old victim was transported by Hawai’i Fire Department medics to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which were non-life threatening and subsequently released.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section are continuing the investigation.
