MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives have charged a 34-year-old man with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed another man Monday (October 4, 1999).

The suspect, Drew K. Shintani, of Keaau, Puna, is being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The victim, Jeffrey Toci, 29, of Mountain View, was taken to the Hilo Community Hospital, where he was listed in guarded condition after undergoing surgery for stab wounds.

Responding to an 8:07 a.m. call, Hilo patrol officers arrived at the Sears Service Center at 50 Pohaku Street to find that the victim had been stabbed three times with a 5-inch hunting knife.

Hilo CIS detectives are continuing the investigation.
