MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives said they believe the skeletal remains found Saturday (October 2, 1999) in a remote area of Kailua-Kona are those of a male who had been reported missing.

Police are withholding the person’s name pending positive identification.

Police said the cause of death could not immediately be determined, but they said they found no evidence of foul play at the scene.

They have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death and the positive identity of the victim.

The remains were found by a person who was looking for rocks to build a rock wall and called police. Officers located the remains at the end of Kamaka Eha Street.

Kona CIS detectives have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest and are continuing the investigation.
