Police have arrested a Hilo man in connection with a 1 a.m. shooting in Kaiwiki Monday (May 15, 2006).

Shawn Urubio, 34, of Kaiwiki Road was arrested for second-degree attempted murder, ownership of a firearm prohibited and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $100,000 bail pending his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon (May 17, 2006).

The arrest came after South Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of a shoting in the populated Kaiwiki area and found the male victim nearby. The man described being in a verbal argument with a man he knew and said the man took out a firearm, pointed it directly at him and fired a single shot at him. The victim was not injured in the shooting.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section in East Hawaii assumed the investigation and arrested Urubio shortly before noon that morning. Late Tuesday afternoon (May 16, 2006), police charged Urubio with the offenses.
