Media Release (update No. 2)
The Hawai’i Police Department is renewing its request for witnesses to a sexual assault in Kailua-Kona in the early morning hours of November 1.
Following Halloween festivities that took place in downtown Kailua, an adult female was waiting for a ride on the makai side of Kuakini Highway around 1 a.m. when four unknown men attacked her, causing multiple injuries to her face and neck. This was south of the Coconut Grove complex and across from and near the entrance to the Kamaina Hale Apartments.
During the attack, at least one of the men sexually assaulted the victim.
The suspects are described as stocky, between 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-6, with dark complexions and short buzzed-style hair. One of them was wearing a light-color T-shirt with what looked like an Asian design or a character running from the side to the torso. At least one suspect was seen fleeing on foot south on Kuakini Highway.
Police investigation has determined that one or more persons may have seen part of the encounter without realizing a crime was in progress. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information about this case to call Detective Gerald Wike of the Juvenile Aid Section at 326-4646, extension 302, or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
