MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii County Police Department will co-sponsor a workshop for landlords on “How to Keep Your Rental Properties Crime Free.”

In collaboration with the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors, the department will host the workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 1999, in the Hilo station’s Training Room, located at 349 Kapiolani Street.

The intent of the workshop is to inform landlords about how to ensure that their rental properties are free of crime so they are not subject to seizure for forfeiture due to illegal drug or any other criminal activity.

The workshop will include not only valuable information on how to reduce crime on rental properties, but an easy-to-read landlord-tenant guide — which includes the landlord-tenant code — and refreshments. The cost is $5.

Guest speakers will include representatives of the Legal Aid Society, the District Court, the County Housing agency and the Police Department.

To register or to receive more information, call Melissa Brown at 961-5561 or Kevin Aoki at 935-4918.
