MEDIA RELEASE

Police are asking for the public’s help in solving the theft of a lawn tractor last month from the Waiakea Agricultural Experimental Station on Stainback Highway about two miles above the Hawaii County Zoo.

Police said that sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday, December 28, and 7:22 p.m. the following morning, a thief or thieves entered the College of Tropical Agriculture facility and stole a red lawn tractor valued at $3,950 from the shop building.

An investigation indicated the thieves pushed the tractor down an access road to the property, then drove it off on a dirt road that parallels the highway.

Anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the mower is asked to call Officer Vince Sivankeo at 961-2311 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous.
