MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Kona police Monday (February 23, 2004) arrested and charged a 42-year-old suspect wanted for stabbing his former girlfriend during an argument.

The suspect, Darrell Inere of Kailua-Kona, was arrested at 11:50 a.m. at a residence in Keauhou-mauka.

At 3:30 p.m. detectives of the West Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section charged him with one count of attempted murder, one count of second-degree assault and one count of first-degree burglary.

Inere is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $57,000 bail.

The suspect allegedly entered his former girlfriend’s residence shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday in Captain Cook, South Kona, got into an argument with her and stabbed her once in the abdomen. He then fled the residence.

The victim, 51, was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was reported in stable condition.
