MEDIA RELEASE

A man was robbed Sunday (February 28, 1999) in the garage area outside a home he was caring for in Hawi, North Kohala.

Responding to a 5:45 p.m. call, North Kohala patrol officers learned that the caretaker surprised two young males in the garage area.

The suspects allegedly threatened the victim’s life with a long wooden handle and metal rod they took from the garage and demanded money. They took the victim’s wallet, which contained about $1,000 in cash, and fled on foot.

The victim later discovered that the home he was caring for had been burglarized, and a derringer pistol was missing.

No one was injured in the robbery, and police are continuing the investigation.
