MEDIA RELEASE

The Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo recognized Ka’u Patrol Officer Jason Tominaga as “Officer of the Month” for August in a luncheon ceremony Thursday.

Tominaga’s supervisor, Sergeant Rollin Rabara, recommended him and commended him for his “diligent enforcement effort.”

Rabarra said Tominaga issued 63 citations to motorists over a three-month period and made 11 of the Ka’u district’s 13 arrests for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Rabarra attributed Tominaga’s “tenacity in conducting enforcement” to his “hard work and determination” and his completion of the Police Department’s Drug Recognition Expert training.

Rabarra said that because of Tominaga’s enforcement efforts, the people of Ka’u “feel confident that there is something being done about the ‘speeders and drunk drivers’ in their community.”

After receiving his award, Tominaga thanked his supervisors. “Without their knowledge and guidance, I wouldn’t be able to serve the community like I’ve been doing,” he said.

As East Hawaii Officer of the Month, Tominaga is now eligible for Officer of the Year.

The East Hawaii Officer of the Month award is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo.
