…’Officer of the Month’

Media Release

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Detective Gerald Wike as "Officer of the Month" for December in a luncheon ceremony Wednesday (December 2) at Paddlers Restaurant at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Wike, a detective in the Area II Juvenile Aid Section, was honored for his investigation into a report that a young girl was being molested by a 46-year-old man who lived nearby. Wike’s investigation revealed that four additional young girls had been victims. The case went to the prosecutor’s office, and the defendant pleaded guilty to all charges. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

"The quality of the work completed in this investigation is typical of the exemplary work ethic Detective Wike displays each and every day he comes in to work his shift," said Lieutenant Glenn Uehana, who was Wike’s supervisor.

As "Officer of the Month," Wike is eligible to become "Officer of the Year."

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting police in West Hawai’i.
