Big Island police are investigating a sexual assault that reportedly occurred early Wednesday (June 15, 2005) in the Kukuau area of Hilo.

The female victim told police that an unknown male entered her residence in the predawn hours and forced himself on her. After the assailant fled the residence, the victim, who was alone in her home at the time, called police.

In addition to being sexually assaulted, the victim suffered injuries requiring medical attention. She was taken to the Hilo Medical Center by fire rescue personnel and released after treatment of her injuries.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the assault or who may know the identity of the assailant to call Detective Raymond Rodrigues of the East Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section at 961-8883 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
