MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police have closed a portion of Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Route 19) in South Kohala because of a large brush fire.

About 1:20 p.m. Tuesday (June 14, 2005), South Kohala police closed the portion between the Kawaihae junction and the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

A police spokesman said it could not be determined when the closed section of highway will be open to traffic again.
