MEDIA RELEASE

Police are advising Hilo motorists that because Big Island schools will be closed, there will be normal two-way traffic patterns on Waianuenue Avenue and Kapiolani Street on Monday (February 18, 2002).

The usual weekday morning one-way traffic patterns will not be in effect because public schools will be closed for President’s Day, a state holiday held to honor all those who served as president of the United States.

The one-way traffic patterns will start again when school resumes on Tuesday (February 19, 2002).

During school days, traffic on Waianuenue below Komohana Street is one-way in the makai direction from 7:15 to 8 a.m. on school days. During the same hours, traffic along Kapiolani between Haili Street and Waianuenue is one-way in the Puna direction.
