Hilo patrol officers apprehended a 17-year-old male Friday (February 8, 2002) after he allegedly grabbed a cash box from a pizza parlor at the Prince Kuhio Plaza and fled.

Responding to a 9:22 a.m. call, police determined that an unknown male stole the cash box containing an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Shopping center employees chased the thief, to Pilipaa Street, where he ran behind a residence. The fleeing youth then crossed Kanoelehua Avenue, dropping money as he ran, to the parking lot fronting the KTA Super Store, where he was apprehended by patrol officers.

The officers arrested the suspect and later charged him with second-degree theft.
