Police Seek Help in Hit and Run 11-11-00

South Hilo police asking for the public’s help in investigating an accident that occurred about 6:45 p.m. Saturday (November 11, 2000).

Police responded to a call of a traffic accident on Kinoole Street in the area of Palai Street. Officers arrived and found a seriously injured man who had apparently been struck by a vehicle.

Fire rescue personnel took the man to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition.

The vehicle, which fled the area, was described as a 1984-1987 cream- or tan-colored Toyota flatbed pickup truck. The truck had staked, wooden sides, and it had sustained damage to the left front headlight area.

The driver was described as a Caucasian male in his mid- to late-40s and having blond or brown hair and a beard.

Anyone with information about the accident or the identity of the driver is asked to call police at 935-3311.
