Police suspect drug overdose in girl’s death 07-12-04

West Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section detectives are investigating the death of a 14-year-old Ka’u girl who died Saturday (July 10, 2004) at the Hilo Medical Center.

Police believe the girl died after having ingested a quantity of methadone. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday (July 13, 2004) to determine the exact cause of death.

On July 4, 2004, Ka’u patrol officers responded to a report that a female juvenile was choking at a residence in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where she died six days later.
