MEDIA RELEASE

Puna police are warning the public about a scam in which a female suspect is going house to house selling phony orders for char siu pork.

Police have received complaints that a woman driving a red Bronco II is approaching residents saying she is selling the char siu to benefit either a hula halau or the Hawaiian Paradise Park Association. For the past three months, the woman reportedly has been taking orders from people, getting their money and promising a delivery date, but never delivering the char siu.

Anyone with information about the scam or who has purchased an order for char siu from the suspect is asked to call Officer Iris McGuire of the Puna Patrol at 966-5835 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. Crime Stoppers keeps the identity of callers strictly confidential.
