MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Big Island police have arrested a 26-year-old Kailua-Kona man in connection with a burglary, assault and sexual assault that occurred Thursday (April 20, 2000) in Kalaoa, North Kona.

The suspect, Norbert Lee Alcaide, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday after he turned himself in at the Kona police station. He is being held in the Kona cellblock pending further investigation into possible charges of burglary, assault and sexual assault, all in the first degree.

An investigation determined that the victim, an adult female, was alone in her Kalaoa apartment Thursday night when she was attacked by a naked male brandishing a knife.

The suspect struck the victim and sexually assaulted her. He also cut the victim’s face and neck with the knife. The victim was able to escape from her apartment and run to a neighbor’s residence for help. She was later taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.
