A 38-year-old Puna man underwent surgery Sunday (April 23, 2000) at the Hilo Medical Center for a gunshot wound in his lower left leg.

The victim, identified as Scott Furtado of an Orchidland Estates address, arrived at the Keaau Fire Station at 11:20 a.m. and told firefighters there that he had been shot earlier in the morning. Fire rescue personnel took him to the hospital for treatment.

Furtado later told police he was in a wooded area of the Orchidland Estates subdivision when he was shot by another man.

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing an investigation into the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 935-3311.
